Bailey & Glasser announces expansion and redevelopment of historic Capitol Street building.
Charleston, WV
February 6, 2008 – Ben Bailey of Bailey & Glasser, LLP announced today that the firm’s headquarters will be relocated to 209 Capitol Street, prompting a complete restoration of the historic building.
Once occupied by the Diamond Shoe and Garment Co. in the early decades of the 20th century, the building was home to S.S. Kresge from approximately 1927 – 1984, and later the Rite-Aid Corporation.
“We have occupied the Scott Drug Building at 227 Capitol Street for the better part of 10 years,” said Bailey. “We love working in an historic structure and the downtown Charleston environment. However, we have substantially outgrown our current building to the point where we have lawyers and staff across the street. When this building became available from the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority for redevelopment, it seemed like a no-brainer for us”
The development process is being managed by Dave Pray of PrayWorks, also from Charleston. Construction began this week with some selective demolition. The construction will be completed by September 2008 and the firm will occupy the new facility in October. Says Dave Pray, “We have been working closely with the architect (GBBN from Cincinnati) and the contractor (Pray Construction Company) on what amounts to a complete reconstruction and preservation of key aspects of this important building. When completed, the building will add a lot of energy to the already vibrant environment we now enjoy on Capitol Street.”
